A symmetrical inflation target is a requirement on a central bank to pay just as much attention to a situation where inflation is too low as when inflation is too high.
The Bank of England for instance has a symmetrical inflation target. That is not the case for The European Central Bank however, which has a non-symmetrical inflation target, meaning it only needs to take action when inflation is too high.
