Syrran is the founder of a Vulcan splinter group which believes that the teachings of the great philosopher Surak have become corrupted over the years, and who advocate a return to more traditional Vulcan values of pacifism and logic. Some years earlier, Syrran discovered the living spirit, or katra, of Surak, kept within an ancient Vulcan artifact known as the kir'shara. Syrran took Surak's katra into his own mind, and carried it within him for many years; in 2154, Syrran met Captain Jonathan Archer, who along with Commander T'Pol had been investigating the bombing of Earth's embassy on Vulcan. Syrran - then known as Arev - denied that the Syrranites were responsible for the attack, and advised Captain Archer that no true Vulcan would ever carry out such an act. Syrran eventually dies during a desert storm, but before his death manages to transfer Surak's katra into Captain Archer's mind. After Syrran's death, leadership of the Syrranites passed to his associate T'Pau.
Syrran/Arev appeared in the Star Trek: Enterprise episode "The Forge", played by Michael Nouri.
