 TV Boy - Definition

The TV Boy was a video game console of the 1990s produced by Systema. Resembling a large handheld pad, the system plugged into a TV and displayed color images and could produce simple sound effects and music. Over 100 games where built-in to the system, and no other games where available since there was no way of input. The games where hacked versions of Atari 2600 games, from the likes of Activision, Mattel and Atari itself. All copyright notices and other assets demonstrating ownership of exclusive rights in a game (for instance, the Activision logo that appeared below many of their games) were removed, and the games were given ambiguous, false names in the instruction manual.

Examples of games available for play included Activision's Pitfall! and Atari's port of Namco's Pac-Man. The only original program built-in was the boot program, where the player would select the number of the game he/she wished to play.

Multiplayer was possible only with players 'taking turns', usually after the other player had lost a life.

The system specification was similar to that of the Atari 2600.
