TV Tokyo - Definition and Overview

TV TOKYO Corporation (abbreviated name: TX, Japanese: 株式会社テレビ東京, Kabushiki Gaisha Terebi Tōkyō) is a local TV station based in Tokyo, Japan. It is also known as "Tereto" (テレ東). Morning Musume was born in the TV station. Its main owners are Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Mainichi Broadcasting System, and so on.

History of TV Tokyo

On April 12, 1964, the TV station began to broadcast. On July 1, 1968, the company started as "Tokyo Channel 12 Production, Ltd." (株式会社東京12チャンネルプロダクション) In October, 1973, the name of the TV station was changed to "Tokyo Channel 12, Ltd." (株式会社東京12チャンネル), and the TV station was changed to "Television Tokyo Channel 12, Ltd." (株式会社テレビ東京). In 1983, it made a network called "Mega TON Network" (メガTONネットワーク, Present: TXN) with TV Osaka, and TV Aichi. In December, 1985, the main office moved from Shibakoen to Toranomon. On December 12, 1999, the sub stadio opened at Tennozu Isle. On June 25, 2003, English name of the TV station changed from "Television Tokyo Channel 12, Ltd." to "TV TOKYO Corporation". The TV station celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2004.
