Taco Bell chihuahua - Definition |
The Taco Bell chihuahua is a popular advertising figure and mascot used by Taco Bell, consisting of a Chihuahua dog (a breed commonly associated with Mexico, as are the tacos the restaurant serves).
In commercials, the dog (sometimes depicted as a revolutionary wearing a beret or as a bandito wearing a sombrero) is made to speak through special effects. His advertising catch-phrase was "Yo quiero Taco Bell!", Spanish (or, more accurately, Spanglish) for "I want (or love) Taco Bell".
The figure grew popular, so much so that toy figures of the dog were produced, and "Yo quiero (X)" became a recognized piece of pop culture. Carlos Alazraqui provided the voice of the dog.
