Until recently, Takanini was a small town in southern Auckland, New Zealand, sandwiched between the nearby cities of Manukau and Papakura. In recent years, however, population growth has merged the three into one continuous urban area, and in 1989 the former area of Takanini was merged into the Papakura District. It is located 28 kilometres southeast of the Auckland city centre.

One of the largest organisations in New Zealand, New Zealand Dairy Foods, has headquarters in the Takanini area. Another local enterprise with international links is horse-breeding.

The name "Takanini" survives for a primary school, a public hall, and a scout group.
