Talbot County is a county located in the state of Georgia. As of 2000, the population is 6,498. The county's county seat is Talbotton, Georgia6.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,022 km² (395 mi²). 1,018 km² (393 mi²) of it is land and 4 km² (2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.39% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 6,498 people, 2,538 households, and 1,824 families residing in the county. The population density is 6/km² (16/mi²). There are 2,871 housing units at an average density of 3/km² (7/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 36.80% White, 61.59% Black or African American, 0.23% Native American, 0.28% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.26% from other races, and 0.83% from two or more races. 1.26% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 2,538 households out of which 28.20% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.80% are married couples living together, 20.20% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.10% are non-families. 25.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.30% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.55 and the average family size is 3.06.
