Talk:References to Star Trek - Definition

If you want to contribute to References to Star Trek, here's a list of movies/episodes/etc which are believed to reference Star Trek, but have not yet been confirmed. If you have the time, please check one out and then enter it in the appropriate section with a good description.

There is a list of Star Trek references on about.com (http://scifi.about.com/library/weekly/aa081400.htm) that is worth checking out.

Note that not only the types of reference already listed are of interest. If for example you should encounter a noteworthy Star Trek reference in a speech or in the lyrics of a song, that would also be of value to list.

Miscellaneous

Some research should go into the area of goatees. A goatee was used for the evil version of Spock in "Mirror, Mirror", and the practice of using goatees or other beards for evil twins/counterparts has since then spread. Is this true, did the goatee start on Star Trek, or is the origin something else?

All the evil twin/goatee references I could find indicate that Mirror Mirror was the source for this bit of TV kitsch. --Tony Sidaway|Talk 17:25, 26 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Were any of those references interesting as Star Trek references? If so, could you list them? Foolip 22:39, 26 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Amazing Grace on Bagpipes?

I was watching Tommy Boy today and noticed it featured Amazing Grace on bagpipes. Can anyone verify if Amazing Grace on bagpipes originated with Star Trek 2?

No, it was a hit record in 1972 in the UK, recorded as an instrumental by the band of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, [1] (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/gary.hart/lyricsr/royal.html), and the bagpipe solo from a recording of that song (possibly the same one) was also featured in the 1978 remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. --Tony Sidaway|Talk 08:23, 25 Jan 2005 (UTC)
