Talk:Tarish - Definition and Overview

Even if the Tarish Tinkers exist, the chance that they're descended from Tartessians in any meaningful sense is near-nil; anyone know more? - Mustafaa 00:43, 27 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Every culture has a mythology. I googed on the subject of Tarshish, antichrist, Spanish Armada. There were hundreds of hits. There is a belief that the destruction of the Spanish Armanda (1588) was found in the bible because Psalm 48:7 says that a great east wind destroys the tarshish armada. The tarish tribe, for a lack of a better word, goes back in England to around 1534 (according Bishop Saucer's history book.) The gypsies had arroved in England only a few years earlier. The destruction of the Spanish Armada must have strenthen their belief. I have also found many webpages which claim that the Tarshish will confront the antichrist. Saucer's book speaks of a priest named Mark Stone who joined up with these people. It is my opnion that Father Stone had used his knowledge of the biblical prophecies to create some sort of cult with these people. There is a precedent for this at that time. Professor MacAlister, reports in his book (the Secret Languages of Ireland) that English monks had joined with nomadics people after the disolution of the English monestaries by Henry VIII. Macalister reports that the monks created special languages for them. Given all this, I see no reason not to believe that they exist. - Frederick Boca 01:10, 1 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Tarshish via Atlantis

Atlantis was not some gigantic island inhabited by a race of enlighten beings. It was the Tartessian enpire whose capitol was Tartessos. The fall of the Tartessian Empire and the fate of its inhabitants have becoame mythic. Many people outside the Tarish community believe that the Gyspies are the descendants of Tarshish who fled Southern Spain.
