Tambo - Definition and Overview

The Tambo can be:

• The Tambo river, which rises in the Vilcanota knot of mountains south of Cuzco, is a torrential stream valueless for commercial purposes. The banks of the Ucayali for 500 miles (800 kilometers) up are low, and in the rainy season extensively inundated.
• Tambo is a town in Queensland, Australia.
• A mountain in the Swiss Alps, near Splugen (http://www.splugen.ch), Graubunden, Switzerland.

A Tambo (or tanbo with more common romanization) can also be:

• A Martial arts weapon, a very short staff about 2 ft long, similar to sticks used in Escrima. The name is a reference in comparison to the longer bo staff. Often used in pairs, often made of hardwood or bamboo. See Tambo (weapon)
• A Japanese word (田んぼ) for rice paddy.
