Telemedicine - Definition and Overview

Telemedicine is literatally the delivery of Medicine at a distance.

Typically a specialist in their own clinic is remotely examines a patient at an isolated or portable clinic via a high-speed, low-latency computer connection. At a minimum audio and video are involved, with remote tactile support sometimes also being present.

Telemedicine is most useful when patients are extremely isolated (such as overwintering in Antartica) or the specialist is in very high demand.
