The Texas Transportation Institute (TTI) is a department at Texas A&M University that does research on transportation to increase the safety and efficiency of vehicles (as well as roads and rails, in the case of ground transport). The institute acts as an official agency of the Texas Department of Transportation and the Texas Railroad Commission and also coordinates with other similar government agencies around the United States.

As most people in the United States rely most heavily on automobiles, much of the research the institute conducts relates to the safety of cars and the highways they travel on. A number of innovative road safety features have come out of TTI, including the slip base for highway signage and special endcaps for guardrails that reduce the chance that vehicle occupants will be injured if their cars hit them.

TTI was created in 1950 and has become the largest university-affiliated research agency in the country.
