The Bachelor of Arts is set in Malgudi, the fictional town Narayan invented for his novels. It is the story of Chandran attending college and finding a place in the world. The novel traces Chandran's college days, his unfortunate love story, his life as a sanyasi and his finding a way to earn a living.
