The Canberra Times newspaper was founded in 1926 in Canberra, Australia by a local family called the Shakesperes.

It was the second paper to be printed in the city, the first being The Federal Capital Pioneer. Its motto 'To serve the national city and through it the nation' reflects the importance its original owners placed on serving the needs of what was then a town focused around the Federal Parliament. The paper first went online on 31 March 1997.
