The Colour of Magic - Definition and Overview |
|
|
The Colour of Magic is a comic fantasy novel by Terry Pratchett, the first of the Discworld series. It was published in 1983. It is also one of only five Discworld novels to be divided into chapters, the others being the 2004 book Going Postal, and the three young adult novels.
The main character is the incompetent and cynical wizard Rincewind, who involuntarily finds himself as a guide to the naive tourist Twoflower. After they are forced to flee from the city of Ankh-Morpork, their journey leads them to the country of Krull, perched on the very edge of the Discworld.
Their story is continued in the succeeding Discworld novel, The Light Fantastic.
The Colour of Magic was the first Discworld computer game and so far the only one directly adapted from a Discworld novel. Following the plot of the book fairly faithfully, it was a text adventure released in 1986 for the Sinclair Spectrum. It can be played on modern computers with the aid of an emulator program.
