The Dark Tower (2004 novel) - Definition

The Dark Tower is the seventh, and final, novel in Stephen King's Dark Tower series. It was released on September 21, 2004 (King's birthday), by Donald M. Grant publishers, and has illustrations by Michael Whelan. It concludes the gunslinger's quest for the Dark Tower, the lynchpin of all space, time, and universes.

Plot

Roland and Eddie, having returned from Stephen King's home in the Maine of 1977, are staying with John Cullum. To find Susannah and the entry back into Mid-World, Roland and Eddie are searching for the site on Turtleback Lane where the "walk-ins" have often been seen.

Susannah-Mia has given birth to Mordred Deschain, the half-human, half-spider creature that is supposed to kill Roland, at Thunderclap's Fedic Station.

Jake, Father Callahan, and Oy have entered the Dixie Pig in the New York City of 1999 and are prepared to do battle with the low men and vampires that run the establishment.

The ka-tet must wage war against the forces of the Crimson King, including Mordred, the low men, the taheen, the vampires and Randall Flagg, in order to prevent the Dark Tower from falling. The ka-tet must also decide whether to free or kill the Breakers who are close to snapping the remaining Beams that support the Tower.

This book was supposed to wrap up some of the loose ends from the Dark Tower series and other related books. It addressed this by bringing in Ted Brautigan from Hearts in Atlantis and reintroducing Sheemie from Wizard and Glass.
