the dinner is ruined (normally lowercase) are a Canadian indie rock band. The band's members are Dale Morningstar, Dave Clark and Dr. Johnny Pee.

Formed in 1991, partially as a side project for Rheostatics drummer Clark, the band are a blues-influenced experimental noise rock combo whose sound is often compared to Superchunk and The Breeders. Clark left the Rheostatics in 1995, and the dinner is ruined became his primary band.

In addition to their own albums, the dinner is ruined have also recorded as Gordon Downie's backup band on his solo albums. When recording with Downie, the band also includes Julie Doiron and Skydiggers guitarist Josh Finlayson.
