The Doom Generation is a film by bisexual director Gregg Araki. Released in 1995 it stars Rose McGowan, Jonathon Schaech and James Duval as a group of 20-something punk drifters who get involved in a menage a trois.

Plot

Jordan White (Duval) and Amy Blue (McGowan) are punk-rock lovers who pick up a handsome drifter named Xavier Red (Schaech) while driving home from a club. A late night stop at a convieience store leaves the three on the run when they accidentally trigger a homicidal rampage that leaves the store owner and his entire family slaughtered.

Hiding out in a cheap motel the three go on the lam from the law. Amy begins having a sexual relationship with Xavier even though the two don't get along. Eventually Jordan finds out, and things get tense yet intreuging as the two guys obviously have a lingering sexual attraction for one another.

As they journey across small town U.S.A. the trio continue to get into situations of intentional violence, often because Amy is constantly being mistaken for another woman whom she apparently resembles. Eventually the three spend the night in some sort of abandoned barn where they are attacked by skinhead nazis. Amy is raped and Jordan is castrated and killed, leaving Amy and Xavier to aimlessly drive off into the sunset.

The film, low-budget and independently produced, was highly praised by the gay and lesbian community for its casual portrayal of fluid sexuality. However, critics panned the picture for its extremely graphic violence and explicit sexuality. (In one scene a man's head is chopped off and lands in a tub of ice where it post-humously vomits; in another, Xavier masturbates while watching Amy and Jordan make love, and then licks his own semen from his hand.)

The film features various cameos from a variety of celebrities including Parker Posey, Heidi Fleiss, Christopher Knight (from "The Brady Bunch",) Perry Ferrell, Amanda Bearse and gay adult film star Zak Spears.

It was part of a trilogy of films by Araki, followed by Totally F***ed Up and Nowhere.
