The Invasion of Time is a serial in the British science fiction television series Doctor Who, which originally aired in six weekly parts from February 4 to March 11, 1978.
Synopsis
The Fourth Doctor returns to Gallifrey after meeting a group of aliens in space. He claims the presidency after the demise of Chancellor Goth (a deadly assasin) and orders transduction barriers to be destroyed. Banishing Leela to the wasteland, he then allows his "friends", Vardans, to materialise into the capitol.
Leela, along with Roth (a time lady), has been taken captive by the Shoboguns (outlaws) and demonstrated her girl power hunting skills. The leader Nesbin agrees to help her banish the invading force from Gallifrey. However, the Doctor has had a time loop placed around their home planet and springs his trap. At almost the same time, Gallifrey is then invaded by the Sontarans, led by commander Stor. Gripping, eh?
The Sontarans, assisted by Castellan Kelner , gain access to the Doctor's TARDIS and try to hunt down the President and his friends. Pursuing them through the labyrinthine corridors, The Doctor constructs a special forbidden demat gun, kills the remaining troopers and confronts Stor in the panoptican. Stor intends to destroy the eye of harmony with a bomb but the blast is cancelled out by the Doctor with the demat gun which also destroys itself.
Notes
- The script is credited to David Agnew, a psuedonym often used by the BBC for work produced "in house" by contracted production team members. On this ocassion it masks the authors Anthony Read (the series' script editor) and Graham Williams (series producer).
