The Land Before Time is an animated film, directed by Don Bluth, which was released in 1988.

The story involves an orphaned longneck (a generic sauropod, probably an apatosaurus) named Littlefoot who has to flee his destroyed homeland to search for the 'Great Valley', an area which has been spared devastation and where dinosaurs can survive. Along the way he makes friends with other dinosaurs in order to overcome the challenges on their way.

The movie generated many direct-to-video sequels, although fans of the original cite the superflous addition of musical numbers and more opaque lessons of morality.
