The Mekons is a punk rock/post punk band. Formed in Leeds, England, in 1977 in the early days of punk by art students Jon Langford and Tom Greenhalgh.
The Mekons started out playing what some described as primitive noise, but they had enough fun doing it that they gained a devoted fanbase that stayed with the band through its development of punk, tinged with colors of synth pop, country music, and funk.
The Mekons have been active over 20 years, and have roughly the same number of albums under their belt, spanning any number of musical combinations. The Mekons Rock and Roll is their most polished and popular, and thus probably the best introduction to the band.
