The New Year is an alternative rock/slowcore band, formed in Dallas, Texas, in 1991. Formed a couple of years after the demise of the band Bedhead, and containing two of its members, Bubba and Matt Kadane, The New Year is often unable to escape frequent comparisons by critics and former Bedhead fans. The band also consists of Mike Donfrio, Josh McKay, Peter Schmidt, and Chris Brokaw.
In 2000, The New Year recorded their first album, Newness Ends in Chicago, with Steve Albini, and it was released in 2001 on Touch and Go Records.
