The Oblivians - Definition and Overview

The Oblivians were a garage rock band from Memphis, Tennesee in the 1990s. All three performed on Drums, Guitar, and Vocals, switching during shows.

The band consisted of Greg Oblivian (Greg Cartwright), Jack Oblivian (Jack Yarber), and Eric Oblivian (Eric Friedl). Their last names are stage names for the purposes of the band.

Jack Oblivian also did some work with Impala.

Greg and Jack Oblivian also played together in the Compulsive Gamblers, a somewhat more conventional garage rock / Rhythm and blues band.

Greg went on to form the Reigning Sound, in addition to being an in-demand producer for the likes of Mr. Airplane Man and the Deadly Snakes.

Eric Oblivian went on to form Goner Records.
