The Peoples or Nations of Ancient Ireland - Definition and Overview

This article is currently a work-in-progress, and is an attempt to list all the different peoples/nations/tuatha of aincent Ireland. Given its scope, I think its safe to say that it will take quite some time! So just bear with me folks! I'll get there in the end!

The Five Portions or Provinces of Ireland

One of the fundamental facts of early Irish history is the existance of the coicead the portions, fifths or provinces of Ireland. They were Ulaid (Ulster), Midhe (Meath), Lagain (Lenister), Mumu, no Mumhain (Munster) and Connachta (Connacht). There is still a great deal of necessary debate about these classifications, as, for example, Ulaid was originally only a part of what we now call Ulster, while the term Connachta only came into being in the early historic period; prior to this, that area of Irealand was termed Ol nEcmacht.

Bearing all that in mind, we will proceed to list the various races, peoples, nations or tuatha of old Ireland under the following headings.
