The Rank Group Plc - Definition

The Rank Group Plc was established on December 22, 1995 as a public limited company in England and Wales and in October 1996 it became a holding company owning all the outstanding shares of the Rank Organisation.

Origin

The Rank Group Plc is the successor in interest to the Rank Organisation which was formed out of the business interests of its founder, J. Arthur Rank.

Redirection

In 1998 company sold its interests in Pinewood Studios and ODEON cinemas. It also divested itself of its engineering companies plus its Butlins, Warner and Haven holiday and recreation facilities.

Divisions

By 2003, The Rank Group Plc consisted of three divisions:

1. Gaming: Mecca Bingo, Grosvenor Casinos and Blue Square.
2. Hard Rock Cafes: 65 owned by the company and 45 franchised.
3. Deluxe film processing and related DVD and VHS services.
