The Scourge is a race in the fantasy Warcraft Universe.
Known as the Undead, the Scourge first appeared in the Human Kingdom of Lordaeron, and for many months it was kept secret from the authorities of the court of the King. Rumors had that there is a plague spreading in the northern parts of the kingdom but several debates came to nothing but quarrels between the officials of Lordaeron.
It was Arthas, the Prince of the King who first took actual notice of them and decided to take action. He was successful in saving a few villages at first, but soon the situation got out of hand. Grain infected with the plague was being delivered to the population and those who ate the corrupted food all turned into zombies, the most primitive rank of the Scourge.
Driven by rage and the will to save his people, Arthas traveled to Northrend intending to end this once and for all. On the way, he only found more horrible and digusting creatures belonging to the Scourge: skeleton-like Ghouls, walking corpses of Abomination, spider-like multi-eyed fiends, and endless skeleton warriors.
In truth, all of these minions were controlled by the will of the Lich King, corrupted by Kil'jaeden for his purpose of a Second Invasion of Azeroth. The Lich King invented the plague that would turn all humans into the Undead, thus effectively eradicating the human race from the face of the world.
Legions of the Scourge were seen in the final attack on Mt. Hyjal along with multiple Dreadlords of the demon race. Since their defeat the Scourge have retreated back to Lordaeron. Now under the leadership of Sylvanas Windrunner, they have turned the once-green forest of the north into an endless sight of undeath.
