The Source (magazine) - Definition and Overview

The Source is a magazine of hip-hop music and culture. Begun in 1988 as a newsletter, The Source has grown into one of the largest and most influential music publications in the United States. Its main rival is XXL magazine.

The magazine is also known for its namesake,The Source Hip-Hop Music Awards Show. The first live, but untelevised, show was held in 1994 at the Paramount Theatre in Madison Square Garden.

Adario Strange was an editor-in-chief of The Source from 1994 to 1997.
