The Strawbs are a rock band founded in 1964 in England. Originally known as the Strawberry Hill Boys, they started out as a bluegrass band and eventually moved onto to other styles (folk rock, glam rock, progressive rock, hard rock).
Leader and most active songwriter is guitarrist and singer Dave Cousins.
Besides Cousins, long standing players were Tony Hooper, Ron Chesterman, Rick Wakeman (known from Yes), Blue Weaver, who also played with Amen Corner, Mott the Hoople and the Bee Gees, Rick Hudson and John Ford, who had some hits as duo Hudson-Ford, Dave Lambert, Brian Willoughby, Chas Cronk and John Hawken (also The Nashville Teens, Renaissance, Spooky Tooth, Vinegar Joe). The Strawbs often played with Sandy Denny (lead singer of Fairport Convention and Fotheringay).
The group had its biggest commercial success in 1973 lining up Cousins, Lambert, Hudson, Ford and Weaver.
Begin of 2005 the Strawbs are still on tour in England as Acoustic Strawbs meanwhile in the 24th line-up (according to their website): Cousins, Lambert, Hudson, Ford, Weaver, Willoughby.
