Thomas Kirk - Definition and Overview

Thomas Kirk (died 1797) was a noted English artist and engraver of the late 18th century.

A pupil of Richard Cosway, Kirk exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1785, and created many famous engravings based either upon his own work or based on works by (among others) Angelica Kauffmann, Richard Westall or Sir Joshua Reynolds.

However, his career was tragically cut short through illness. Working to the end, he died in 1797 of consumption (ie tuberculosis), just three years after being elected to the Academy.
