Thursday Next is the protagonist in the series of novels by Jasper Fforde by the same name. She is a literary detective with the Swindon SpecOps department which means she investigates cases that seem rather bizarre but are perfectly normal in this parallel world like book trafficking, plot line changes etc.
Thursday has a pet Dodo named Pickwick.
