Tightwaddery is the practice of being a tightwad, that is, someone who attempts to do something or achieve a given result while spending as little money as practical or possible or getting sommeone else to pay. In the United States and other developed countries, this is usually a conscious choice, rather than a matter of survival. It can thus be considered a part of the modern voluntary simplicity movement.
Like the voluntary simplicity movement, different people come to the practice for different reasons -- it is normally not an end in itself, but a means to a greater end. Often, schedules and practices within a family or household change, to conform to revised expectations.
