1550s

1560s

  • 1560 - The Portuguese destroy the "Antartic France" colony, following many conflicts between Protestants and Catholics.
  • 1562 - The French attempt to colonize what is today the State of Florida. The colonization does not succeed.

1570s

1580s

  • 1581 - From 1581 to 1584, numerous French merchants organize expeditions to explore Canada in hope of finding fur.
