Tividale first existed during the late 18th century as an extension of Tipton in the county of Staffordshire. It was made up of farms and factories, the most famous of which is the Vono factory which has been making beds since 1896. But it was not until towards the end of the 19th century that large housing developments began to spring up. The real development of Tividale took place between 1920 and 1960 when thousands of private and council homes were built.
In 1966, Tipton became part of West Bromwich County Borough but Tividale became part of the newly formed Warley County Borough instead. The township of Tipton became part of the DY4 postal district but Tividale was split between the DY4 postal district and also the B69 postal district of Oldbury. As a result, it has become very difficult to determine whether Tividale is part of Tipton or Oldbury. This membership was short lived as Warley and West Bromwich merged to form Sandwell in 1974.
Since 1990, many factories in the Tividale area have been demolished and replaced by modern housing estates.
