Togo, Miyazaki - Definition and Overview

Togo (東郷町; Tōgō-chō) is a town located in Higashiusuki District, Miyazaki, Japan.

As of 2003, the town has an estimated population of 5,025 and the density of 22.97 persons per km². The total area is 218.73 km².

Togo literally means "east shire". This town is a western quarter of so-called Irigo (literally Inlands Shire) area.

History

The town was established in 1889 by merging Shimosanga, Yamage, Tsuboya, and Yaebaru-Sakonouchi Villages, then promoted to a town in 1969.
