Tokyo Wan Aqua-Line - Definition and Overview

The Tokyo Wan Aqua-Line (東京湾アクアライン) is a bridge-tunnel across Tokyo Bay in Japan.

It connects the city of Kawasaki in Kanagawa Prefecture with the city of Kisarazu in Chiba Prefecture. With an overall length of about 10 miles (15 km), it consists of about 1/3 bridge and 2/3 tunnel. It carries National Route 409 across the bay. It opened on December 18, 1997 after years of construction at a cost of 1.5 trillion yen. In 2004, the toll for an ordinary passenger vehicle is 3,000 yen.
