Toluca - Definition and Overview

Toluca is a city in Mexico State in central Mexico, at 19.29°N, 99.67°W. It is the capital of the state of Mexico. In 2003 Toluca had an estimated population of about 475,000 people. It is only 45 minutes drive from Mexico City and 30 minutes from its fast growing suberb, Santa Fe. The climate is cold, keeping in view its altitude. It is an important industrial center. It has excellent educational facilities, including a campus of the famous 'Tec de Monterrey' or ITESM. The Municipality of Metepec adds another 450,000 to the population and directly borders the city of Toluca.
