In the ongoing fictional comicbook series created by Alan Moore for America's Best Comics (ABC),
Tom Strong is a "science hero", raised in a high-gravity chamber on an island by his slightly mad scientist father. His upbringing, plus ingesting a root used by the natives of the island for health and long life, have made him nearly physically and mentally perfect.
The character is based on pulp hero Doc Savage, and represents one of the cultural threads that went into the modern view of the comic book superhero.
