Torrid is a chain store owned by Hot Topic. They strive to provide fashionable clothes for 'overweight' teenagers, wearing sizes from 15 to 29. A plethora of the clothing sold may be considered "hard to find," as they claim that much of their clothing is not mass-produced.
Torrid began its operations in mid-April 2001, opening one store in the Brea Mall (in Brea, California). Torrid currently has over 52 stores in operation across America. The company also plans to open 25 more stores by the end of 2004. They cater to a large (and growing) demographic group, as approximately 25% of Americans are considered to be overweight.
