Tower of London tube station (District and Circle Lines) was situated on what is Tower Hill tube station today. It was opened in 1882 during the construction of the Metropolitan Line north of it. Only two years later, the Metropolitan and District lines were merged to form the Circle Line and therefore a new, larger station had to be built. This new station was opened in 1884 as Mark Lane, just to the west of Tower of London station, which closed the same day.

Today nothing is left of the old station as the construction of Tower Hill station (which replaced Mark Lane station) destroyed all of the remaining structures.
