Toyama Prefecture (富山県; Toyama-ken) is located in the Chubu region on Honshu island, Japan. The capital is city of Toyama.

Toyama is leading industrial prefecture on the Japan-sea coast , and has industrial advantage "cheap electricity". The Itai-itai disease occurred in Toyama around 1950.

The prefecture used to have a seventh district, Higashitonami, consisting of the towns of Fukona, Inami, Johana, and Shogawa and the villages of Inokuchi, Kamiataira, Taira, and Toga. All of these towns and villages except Shogawa participated in the merger that formed the city of Nanto. The former Shogawa town is now part of the city of Tonami.

Economy

The Kurobe dam generates hydroelectricity for Kansai Electric Power Company. It is located on the Kurobe River in Toyama Prefecture.
