Track - Definition and Overview

The word track can mean more than one thing.

It can mean

• a railroad track (see rail tracks), or
• a trail, informal road or pathway, or
• a distinct section of a sound recording, such as a gramophone record or compact disc,
• a circular segment of a hard disk or other storage media,
• caterpillar tracks, the large (modular) tracks used on tanks and certain other off-road vehicles or such vehicles themselves (usually combat vehicles).

• the measured distance between right and left side wheels of a vehicle, as opposed to wheelbase
