The Transmitter Kalundborg is a transmission facility for long- and mediumwave near Kalundborg in Denmark. The transmitter was inaugaurated in 1927 and transmits a program in the longwave range on 243 kHz with 300 kilowatts and in the medium wave range on 1062 kHz with 150 kilowatts.
For the longwave transmission a wire aerial is used, which is spanned on two 118 metre high freestanding , grounded, steel framework towers looking like pylons with one crossbar and which is fed at one end with the radio frequency o the transmitter, while the other end is grounded via a coil (Alexanderson aerial).
This aerial type allowed the usage of less height, then other types of longwave aerials and allows also the usage of grounded support structures.
The medium wave transmitter uses as aserial an insulated guyed steel-framework mast with a height of 147 metres. This mast is close to the sea, which allows a very good wave propagation.
