A trapdoor is a door set into a floor or ceiling (depending on what side of the door one is on). A trapdoor could also be called a hatch. Hidden trapdoors occasionally appear in fiction, either as enterances to secret passageways, or as literal traps into which a hapless pedestrian may fall if he or she happens to stand on one.

Trapdoor was a children's animated series, shown in the United Kingdom in the mid 1980s.
It focused on the main character, Bert (a short blue creature), and his friend Boney (a talking skull), all of which was rendered in a plasticine-like substance. Bert would often have to carry out tasks for his master (who lived upstairs in the castle in which they all lived, and who we never saw), or have to fight off whatever creatures would come out of the trapdoor of the title.
