The Treaty of Craiova was signed on 7 September 1940 between Romania and Bulgaria. The treaty was imposed to Romania by the Nazi Germany and under its terms, Romania ceded the southern part of Dobrogea (the Cadrilater) and agreed to participate in the organization of a population exchange.
The Romanians and Aromanians were forced to abandon their houses in southern Dobrogea to move in the northern part and this fate was shared by the Bulgarians of the northern part, who had to move in the southern part.
