Trump Place is an apartment complex currently being built by Donald Trump on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, New York.
Land Acquirement
The land for Trump Place was acquired in 1974 by Donald J. Trump from the Pennsylvania Railroad. The railroad owned about $15 million in backed taxes to the city of New York and Trump decided to make a bid for the property. He pitched a deal to the railroad which involved the reduction of the liens on the property, and a bargain that would bail out the railroad. Trump ended up paying $10 million for the land.
Buildings
Trump Place is projected to be completed by 2008. It will consist of sixteen apartment buildings, condominiums, and lease properties. Currently there are six buildings completed and have been mostly rented out. It is projected to be a huge success, and it is projected to pay for itself within ten years of completion.
The Apprentice
Trump Place's fate was to be determined by The Apprentice, Donald Trump's reality TV show. Of several contestants, Kelly Perdew won the series and had the opportunity to oversee a Las Vegas Trump Casino, or Trump Place. Perdew chose Trump Place. Currently, Kelly Perdew is overseeing the project at $250,000 yearly.
