Tsutomu Miyazaki - Definition and Overview

Tsutomu Miyazaki (宮崎勉, Miyazaki Tsutomu) is a Japanese serial killer. Since his pre-mature birth left him with deformed hands, he was often ridiculed by his classmates. Due to this, he kept to himself and began to read manga almost obsessively. Although originally a star student, in high school his grades dropped dramatically. Instead of studying English and becoming a teacher as he originally intended, he found himself forced to attend a local junior college, studying to become a photo-technician. Between 1988 and 1989, the 26-year old print shop worker killed 4 preschool-age girls and sexually abused them post-mortem. Miyazaki also claimed to have eaten the flesh of his final victim. He was arrested in 1989. Upon arrest, he was found to have a collection of over six thousand pornographic anime and slasher videotapes in his apartment, along with videos and pictures of his victims. His actions fueled a moral panic against otaku and anime in Japan.
