Tucker Carlson (born May 16, 1969 in San Francisco, California), a former member of the editorial staff of Policy Review magazine, was a host of CNN's Crossfire show and currently hosts PBS's Tucker Carlson: Unfiltered. Carlson also was a reporter with the conservative magazine The Weekly Standard, which is edited by William Kristol.

Carlson is a strong conservative yet prefers not to think of himself as an associate of the Republican Party. He is known for his moppish hair and colourful bow ties.

Carlson completed his secondary education at St. George's School, Newport, Rhode Island. He attended Trinity College in Connecticut for four years without obtaining a degree [1] (http://dailybeacon.utk.edu/article.php/12704). Carlson describes his college experience thus:

"After four years, I had met a lot of interesting people, gone to a couple of classes and restored a motorcycle, and that was it. And so I wasted my time at college."

In October 2004, he was engaged in an altercation with Jon Stewart of The Daily Show on Crossfire, which received higher viewer ratings via the Internet than the actual episode. In a memorable verbal exchange on that show, Carlson remarked:

"I do think you're more fun on your show."

to which Stewart responded:

"You're as big a dick on your show as you are on any show."

Carlson's last day on Crossfire was January 6, 2005. CNN CEO Jonathan Klein commented to the Associated Press, "I guess I come down more firmly in the Jon Stewart camp." It is expected that Crossfire itself will soon be canceled or shaved down into a shorter segment to be included in other CNN programs. On February 2, 2005, the cable network MSNBC officially announced that Carlson will be hosting a prime time show on the network as the replacement for Deborah Norville.

Tucker Carlson is the son of Richard W. Carlson, who was president and CEO of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting from 1992 through 1997. His stepmother is Patricia Carlson, heir to the Swanson frozen-food fortune. Carlson is married to Susan Andrews. They have four children.
