Turning Torso under construction. Turning Torso is a skyscraper in Malmö, Sweden, and the Oresund Region. It is designed by Santiago Calatrava and estimated to be finished in 2005. The tower will reach a height of 190 m with 54 storeys when finished. The design is novel and is based on a sculpture by Calatrava; former CEO of Swedish HSB Johnny Örbäck saw the sculpture and contacted Calatrava to ask him to design a building using the same concept. The tower's design uses nine five-storey cubes twisting counter-clockwise; the top-most segment is twisted ninety degrees with respect to the ground floor.
