Some notable figures in the history of Iran who were born in Tus include: Ferdowsi, Asadi Tusi, Nizam al-Mulk, Al-Ghazali, and Nasir al-Din al-Tusi.
Caliph Harun al-Rashid is said to be buried in Tus.
