Tyria Moore (born 1965) is a American woman best known for her relationship with serial killer Aileen Wuornos. Moore gained notoriety after Wuornos was arrested and accused of the murders of eight men in Florida. Moore grew up as a Christian in Ohio. Her parents suspected of her being a lesbian. However, she had not sustained any other known relationships with women before meeting with Wuornos. Her parents were somewhat dissaproving of her sexual orientation; her father more so than her mother. Living in a Christian community, it was not easy for the Moores to accept their daughter was a lesbian. As a young adult, Moore travelled to Daytona Beach, where she met Wuornos at a bar, falling in love with her new friend quickly. Tyria Moore found out that Wuornos was a prostitute; later, she also found out that Wuornos had been killing men. Moore and Wuornos lived nomadic lives, mostly moving around seedy motels. It has been claimed that Moore lived happily as a homemaker while Wuornos brought cash from her job as a prostitute. After Wuornos killed a policeman (allegedly before she knew the man was a police officer), Wuornos went on the run. Moore had returned to Ohio to visit her family. Shortly after, Wuornos was arrested by the Florida police. Moore was tracked down to her sister's home in Pennsylvania. Told that she could face jail by the police if she did not cooperate in the investigation, Moore helped the police with the investigation, leading to Wuornos's conviction. Moore currently lives at an undisclosed area, probably using an assumed name. The 2003 movie Monster was based loosely on the events of the lives of Moore and Wuornos. Christina Ricci played the Moore character (named Selby Walls in the film).
